Off the Grid, Future Habitat | Off the Grid, Un Habitat Futuro

This sustainable habitat is a concept project developed by Phillips, and in 2020 it probably will be in construction. In some of his features biomimetics are applied, this is an example of how the future could be applying biological principles in the design of the buildings. The term off the grid or off-grid refers to living in a self-sufficient manner without reliance on one or more public utilities.

Today, our habitat is very dependent on the international grid of energy and water. Energy crisis, clean water shortage, global warming and environmental pollution are worldwide problems. Understanding cities as dynamic and ever-evolving eco-systems can help us to formulate strategies for a sustainable urban future.

The integration of electronics and biochemical functionalities into the inert material of the built environment. This future habitat shifts from the current state where the  building surfaces are benign inert ‘dumb’ materials only used for construction and shielding purposes to sensitive functional skins that are ‘alive’ and act as membranes to harness energy. A membrane creates a strong link between the exterior and interior of the habitat and used as a transporter collecting and channeling the elements of air, water and light – from the outside feeding into the inside space. Este Habitat Sustentable es un proyecto conceptual desarrollado por Phillips, y en el 2020 problablemente estara en construccion. En algunas de sus características se muestra aplicada la Biomimetica, mostrando un ejemplo de como en el futuro pueden ser aplicados los principios biologicos en el diseño de los edificios.

La integración de electrónica y funcionalidad bioquímica dentro de materiales inertes dentro del medioambiente construido se hace notar a través de una piel funcional sensitiva como si estuviese viva, actuando como membranas en donde se deposita la energia. Esto crea un vinculo entre el exterior y el interior del habitat utilizado como transportador recolectando y canalizando los elementos como son el aire , el agua y la luz.
